About ChurAte

Feeding your household shouldn't take a spreadsheet.

Groceries are one of the biggest bills a Kiwi household pays, and the information you'd need to pay less exists. It's just scattered across store websites, mailers and apps that each show you one piece of the picture. ChurAte was built to put the whole picture in one place: what to cook, what it costs, and the cheapest way to buy it.

Our mission

Every household should know what dinner costs before they shop. And every good local food shop should get a fair shot at the trolley.

Why we're different

Plenty of apps touch this problem. Here's what only ChurAte does.

The whole journey, not half of it

Price checkers compare products but don't know what you're cooking. Meal planners know what you're cooking but not where it's cheapest. ChurAte covers the full distance: pick the week's meals, get one list with your pantry subtracted, and see the cheapest way to buy the lot before you leave the house.

The whole trolley, priced automatically

Checking one item at a time, or flipping between stores to compare, is homework. ChurAte prices your entire week at every store you shop at, every night, and tells you when splitting the shop between two stores beats any single one. You decide where to go; the maths is already done.

Locals in the running

Everyone else treats the big chains as the whole market. We built ChurAte so a local butcher, greengrocer or bakery can share a simple price list and compete for lines in the same trolley, on price. When the corner butcher wins the mince, the app says so. Paid partnerships are always labelled. That's a promise written into our terms.

Honest numbers

What a meal costs per serve and what you hand over at the till are different questions, and apps that blur them always look cheaper than your receipt. ChurAte shows both: the till total with real pack sizes, and the per-serve cost of what the meal actually uses. Leftover ingredients from one recipe make the next one cheaper, and the app counts that too.

Real recipes, credited

Our recipe book is real home cooking: openly licensed recipes from real cooks, adapted for NZ supermarkets and priced per serve, with every author credited and linked. No AI-generated filler, and when you send us your family recipe, your name goes on it.

Private by design

Everything works without an account. We never ask for your location. Photograph a recipe out of a cookbook and it's read on your phone, never uploaded. Usage stats are anonymous and come with an off switch. We compare prices; we're not in the business of collecting people.

Who we are

Made in New Zealand, for how New Zealand shops.

ChurAte is built by Churate Limited, a small independent New Zealand company. Prices are collected branch by branch, every night, because a special in one suburb isn't a special in yours.

Where we're heading

A fairer trolley for everyone.

The more people plan with ChurAte, the stronger the case that transparent prices and local suppliers belong in the same basket. If that sounds like a future worth cooking for, join the beta, send us a recipe, or bring your store aboard.
